Connecticut Leather Man

Students will cut, sew, age, and fit the leather costume to an original Shirley Whitworth Bertram porcelain figure. Skills learned will include figure assembly procedure to include "tricks of the trade," the leather lockstitch, fitting and aging the costume to the figure, leather boot applications, draping and posing techniques, and hat making. This is a historical figure with a most unusual story.

Student Supplies and Tools Needed: Small sharp scissors to cut the leather, light and magnifying tools and a box to take him home (3x8). Note that all leather, thread, needles, aging materials will be supplied by the instructor.
